OPTICAL YELLOW GOLD RING OF FIRE AND DIAMONDS

Opal is an amorphous colloidal mineral (hydrated silica: SiO₂·NIHH₂O) devoid of reticular, semi-morphic or microcrystalline structure, in fact it does not appear in crystals, but in veins, nodules and crusts of various colors, often with wonderful iridescences. The color ranges from transparent to milky white, with an infinite number of different intermediates (green, red, yellow, brown, black). The water content can be up to 20%. Opal formation occurs by slow geological deposition of a colloidal silica gel at low temperature.

It includes many varieties including theCommon Opal, theOpal Noble, theOpal Black, theWater opal, theFire Opal, theXyloid Opal the Esscuelas Yalite.

The Word Opal has common root in Sanskrit ⁇ pala, in Greek ⁇ ⁇⁇ ⁇ Opallios and in Latin Opelus (meaning of Gemstone).

The variety of bright red or orange color is so called because of the bright color.

This variety lacks iridescence and, in the most precious varieties, also lacks milkiness, while the less precious samples are more cloudy. The bright orange red color is due to ferrous oxide. Cutting is done with veneers or curved surfaces.
